The Mexican stock markets hit a five month high early this week on the back of rising inflation and steady interest rates mainatained by the central bank of Mexico. The country currence, the mexican PESO has climbed to a new two year high against the american dollar. The PESO, in early trades, rose close to 0.5% to end the day on a very strong note at close to 10.6 pesos to the US dollar. The Mexican Central bank Governor, Mr. Guillermo Ortiz said that though US and various European econmoies were in the midst of a recession, the asset prices in Mexico were strong and hence inflation remained a serious concern. Mexico along with brazil, India and various other emerging econmies is seeing an increase in inflation due to the cut in interest rates by the Fed. The US interest rates are at 2.25% compared to the 5%+ interest rates in various developing economies. Hence US investors are shifting their investments to these countries to profit from the interest rate differential.

On the follow up to the huge stock market crash witnessed in various asian stock markets, the Chinese cabinet seems to have taken the initiative and has advised the financial market regulators of China to promote healthy practices in the chinese stock markets. The main stock market Index of China, better known as SSEC or the Shanghai Composite Index has witnessed a whooping 34% crash in the first quarter of the current year. This has been one of the steepest first quarter crash witnessed by the chinese stock markets in many decades.

CRISIL has given the much awaited UTI MF IPO, which will be the first IPO by a mutual fund, an IPO grade of 4. CRISIL IPO grade 4 indicates that the fundamentals of UTI MF IPO are above average when compared to other listed companies in the country. Baring the rare grade 5 given to just 1 IPO, Grade 4 has been the highest IPO grading awarded by CRISIL. This however does not indicate the performance of the IPO, which will depend purely on the market dynamics when the IPO opens for subscription.
